Malikhaing Pinoy Creative Expo: Celebrating Filipino Innovation and Identity

On September 6, 2025, the DTI Malikhaing Pinoy Creative Expo was held at SMX Aura Premier, bringing together artists, entrepreneurs, and innovators from across the country in a vibrant showcase of Filipino creativity. Organized by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the event aimed to strengthen the local creative economy by encouraging Filipinos to turn their artistic passions into sustainable enterprises.

The expo covered a wide range of creative domains, including Design, Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Creative Services, Publishing and Printed Media, Traditional Cultural Expressions, Cultural Sites, Digital Interactive Media, and Audiovisual Media. Each section highlighted how Filipino ingenuity continues to shape industries both locally and globally.

Inspiring Talks and Creative Insights

The event featured a powerhouse lineup of speakers such as Dean Abdulmari “Toym” D. Imao, Jr. from the UP College of Fine Arts, Gabe Mercado of SPIT Manila, and Chef Jam Melchor of the Philippine Culinary Heritage Movement. Their talks explored the evolving landscape of Filipino creativity—how it preserves heritage while driving innovation.

One of the major takeaways from the sessions was the idea that creativity can be both cultural and entrepreneurial. The discussions showed that artists and creators can sustain their passions while contributing to national development. The talk by UNESCO’s Entrepreneurship Education Network (EENET) also stood out, introducing frameworks for creative entrepreneurship and encouraging participants to transform their ideas into successful ventures.

Technology and Creativity Go Hand in Hand

What made this expo especially memorable was the integration of technology into creativity. Companies like Canva showcased how accessible digital tools can empower anyone to design and express ideas. I also had the chance to experience the Vi 3v3 Arena game, part of the Digital Interactive Media domain, which was an exciting way to see how gaming can combine creativity, teamwork, and innovation. It was a fun reminder that creativity isn’t limited to art—it’s everywhere, even in technology.

Preserving Heritage Through Innovation

The expo also emphasized the importance of preserving Filipino traditions while finding new ways to share them with the world. From traditional crafts and culinary arts to modern design and media, every exhibit reflected pride in our cultural identity. It was inspiring to see how artists are keeping heritage alive through creativity and entrepreneurship.

A Celebration of Filipino Creativity

As a student and one of the attendees, I found the DTI Malikhaing Pinoy Creative Expo both inspiring and empowering. It made me realize that creativity knows no boundaries—whether in art, business, or technology. It also reminded me that being Filipino means being inventive, resourceful, and passionate about making ideas come to life.

The event ended with a strong message: creativity is not just talent—it is a tool for change, innovation, and national pride.
